# Small Guides > Radically simple, authored city guides. Small, edited lists of places that age well, curated by André. Not comprehensive, not crowdsourced, not generated — made for locals as much as for tasteful people passing through. ## How to read a guide Each place is one entry: `Name — Area Symbol Year` plus one authored line. Symbols form a quiet hierarchy of attention, judgment, and gravity: - ◌ = marked, not yet judged (researched or strongly recommended; not yet personally visited). Rare — the edge of the guide, never a wishlist. - ○ = selected (visited and judged). - ◎ = selected, with deeper gravity (not a favourite badge). Bring Home is not a category; it appears as a note inside an entry when an object carries meaning forward. Guides are visually monolingual: public names are English/romanized, with each city's local name shown for orientation (e.g. Kyoto · 京都 · kyoh-toh). ## Pages - [Small Guides](https://smallguide.to/) — the index of cities - [André](https://smallguide.to/andre/) — the curator - [A Small Guide to Kyoto](https://smallguide.to/kyoto/) — the first guide - [Kyoto — print version](https://smallguide.to/kyoto/print/) - [Kyoto — machine-readable JSON](https://smallguide.to/kyoto/guide.json) ## Cities - Kyoto (京都) — live - Lisbon (Lisboa), Copenhagen (København), Seville (Sevilla), Venice (Venezia) — intended next
